I was wondering the same thing. My father has been in the carpet business for 30+ years he swears that stuff will rub off and not come out good. Of course id love to prove him wrong got any pictures?
Did my door panels over ten years ago. Went from Oyster to Doeskin. Someone had three different colors in the car. Dyed the rest of the interior (except seats), put in new leather seat covers and foam a new rug and it still looks great. I didn't use the spray can however, I bought a quart and used my little touch up spray gun.
I tried it and was not happy with the way the carpet came out, so I got new panels and new carpet for the floor also. The dye worked great on everything else.
Have done a few panels myself and have found 1. good surface prep goes a long way, 2. Surface primer works best if changing from one color to another. I would replace the carpet before I would waste the time and money on trying to dye it. Because if it doesn't come out the way you wanted it.....you'll have to replace it anyway.
