So I pulled the spring.
Everything looks ok, and it has most of the parts. The bracket on the back that looked like it was missing was actually there, it was just painted black:
I got everything installed except the missing heat shield. I hope to have one later this week and I will install it then.

I have to ask why so many spacers on the spring? Could you adjust it enough to bring the back end anywhere near where it was?
That's just how it came apparently. I thought the previous owner had put that tape on there, but it actually had little stickers on the top saying something to the effect that it had been assembled at the factory, etc, etc.
Since I didn't buy the spring (it was on there when I bought the car), I don't have any of the instructions that came with it. I really have no idea if (or how) it could be adjusted.
it still looks like the spring retainer bracket is bent. did u retorque the driveshaft bolts? do not trust that Bubba dork
I cleaned up the retainer bracket while it was off. It isn't flat, but as far as I can tell, it is supposed to be that way. All of the bends are perfectly symetrical. I'll be keeping an eye on it just in case.
Yep, rechecked all of the bolts after I found a few loose ones.
thanks again
