Did the '71 LS-5 come with rectangular or oval port heads, and what are the advantages of either. Also, does anyone have factory cam specs?? Looking to add more factor, and wondering where I should start!!

Thanks

LS-5 came with ovals, they're good for low and mid-range power. Rectangular port heads are best for high RPM HP. I don't know what the cam specs are other than they're pretty mild compared to todays street performance standards.

At .050" lift the specs are 114 degrees on intake and 118 on exhaust. Lift was .461" and .480" respectively. Intake centerline was something like 116 degrees.

The factory cam specs for an LS-5 are: Hhdraulic flat tappet with duration @ .050 = 214 I/ 218 E, lift = .461 I / .480 E and lobe seperation = 115.
