Well, I know earlier C3s had full sized spares and later had donuts. I'm pretty sure my 81 won't fit a full sized tire and rim, so I'm assuming they'd be different. But I don't know where the cut off is.
Hello
When I bought my 72 it did not have a spare tire or a tire carrier. I bought a used one from a 1976 at the local junk yard for $50.
There is an upper piece ( $70 repro) and a lower tray ( $165 repro)
The lower tray is held in place in the back by two long bolts. The front of the tray is held in place with a long bolt and nut to pull it tight.
We'll be using a C4 carrier (1985) with a donut tire for my rebuild. Just enough to have a wheel to get on and off a rollback wrecker, or roll it out of the way. The P285/40R17 that will be used won't fit the C3 carrier.

The changeover to the small spare came w/ the major redesign in 78.
