This really sounds like an oxymoron... BUT I noted that there is an L88 block (with pistons, rods and crank) with starting bid of $500 (reserve not yet met) with 2-BOLT mains on eBay:
Now, when I think of an L88, I think brutal horse power and 2-bolt mains don't necessarily sound like an L88 foundation. This sounds more like the 390 or 400HP block; not the basis for an L71, L89 or L88...
Is this guy dreamin?
Info: Casting number: 3963512
This listed as either a 2-bolt OR 4-bolt block in '69 as a 427 or a 454 from 70-76 according to the following website:
According to the prefix # this is a 1969 Pass Car 390 HP with 3 or 4 spd. IT IS NOT AN L88!!!! This guy is either doesn't know better or he is a thief!!!
Didn't the L-88 use the block of another engine, but had different heads. Would it be considered an L-88 without the heads?
As I said above, same 4 bolt main, 427 block was used in al hi-po motors. Only difference between L88 and L71/89 was the cam, rods, pistons, valve springs, pushrods, carb, intake, and round port exhaust aluminum heads.
As I said above, same 4 bolt main, 427 block was used in al hi-po motors. Only difference between L88 and L79/89 was the cam, rods, pistons, valve springs, pushrods, carb, intake, and round port exhaust aluminum heads.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I have seen 427ci blocks go for as high as 5 grand on Ebay it all depends on the date code? so the they can be transplanted in expensive collector Vettes
The last one I saw was similar to this block as it was from a mid sized passenger car and I emailed the the buyer ( his ebay name was 67Vette or something similar ) and he said he didn't care it had the correct stamping for him
