Get 2 quarts...you won't use it all, but it's better to have more than to run out

I am working on changing a front clip also, and just bonded on a door skin. The quick set up time on the bonding adhesive scares me to death. I am going with longer set up time Fusor.

With all the adjusting and fitting to get a good fit, inserting screws to hold things in place, attaching splash shields and front support rods, checking straightness with rocker panels, the 5-8 minute set up time is too little for me.

I am sure there are people that work faster than I do, but the extra time is worth it to me.

To answer your question, get a gallon.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for everyones opinion..looks like I will be going with the gallon (better safe than sorry). What have you guys been using for applicators ? I imagine the inner fender skirts will be the toughest to get to. I am looking for a adhesive with a slow cure time I dont want to be rushed.

reduce the amount of hardner to the compound. That will slow the curing process.

To a point....If you get below a critical point, it will never harden...
If you need longer cure time, I would recommend 3-M 8219. The applicator tip makes the fender-wells a breeze. Figure on 4 tubes.

after helping a friend install a fender, we bonded the headlight area
(iirc metal to glass) with a fusor product, really slow dry, almost thought it wouldn't harder
when it did it had a flexable feel. like silicone.

a few days later we did the rear of the fender with regular bonding adhesive
it cured to fast. door fit off by 1/8" (good as factory )

the front area stuck solid, would not attempt to break it loose, much stronger then we thought.
we ended up pulling the fender out 12-18" to grind and rebond.(fun)

so on the '74, after fitting the FEA I want to bond one side at a time with something slow
is 3m 8219 the only choice?

thx rod

and where to buy, I can't seem to find it online

I think for pros like BigG, the regular bonding adhesive is Ok because they know what they are doing. For the do-it-yourselfers like me, I need all the time I can get. GDaina is correct also, but I find it very hard to estimate the amount of hardner to add to a blob of adhesive. Again, if you know exactly what you are doing, you can adjust the amount of hardner to speed up or slow down the setup time, but that is an art I seem to lack.

I've had good luck with Fusor 127EZ by Lord Corporation. See www.fusor.com. The 127 states about 60 min open time. Also about $40 for 10oz tube, which can add up. Those special two plunger guns are required, but my paint store has always loaned me one to use.

Good luck. Ralph.

When using panel adhesive like Evercoat 994 or vette-bond, we have 3 people help in the final assembly. Otherwise, any good auto-body supply house can get the 3-M 8219.
