Ok i'm sure this has been asked before, but bare with me. I recently purchased a '78 25th anniversary silver/dark gray vette. How would I go about finding if it was an original silver/dark gray car? How much does that change the value now-a-days from any other color '78 vette? Could I get a car-fax report that would tell me everything I wanna know about the car? What would a good price be on this car? It is in pretty good shape: paint/body-8, interior-8, running condition-8. Any info would be appreciated.
Look at the driver's side hinge pillar post jamb. There is a trim code tag that will tell what paint and interior it had when built. According to m way out of date Covette Black Book, Silver Anniversary is paint code 13. So is plain silver. Someone with more up to date info will probably post it for you. Suggested interior combos w/SA paint were black (19C or 192), red (72C or 722), and oyster (12C or 122). The C in the interior code designates cloth.
The paint code on the trim plate would be 13/07. There were more 78 Vettes painted this color combo than any other color that year. Like 15,000! Not like it's a rare color or anything, just popular.
Car-fax doesn't cover before I think 82 so out of luck there.

Just looked, it's trim # is 292 and paint was # 82L. So blue interior and mahagony mettalic exterior? Hmm I like the new paint color. Sense your all the pros how much would a car like this sell for? I would give it an 8, I could possibly post pics up tomorrow. Odometer reads 106,000 but its had a stock rebuild. Drives great, brakes good, etc. . . Sounds like I need to rip the motor out and throw something else in. Will the value of this year car increase if it stays in good condition?
too many factors go into the value to be specific, however in my area (south florida) a 78 repaint vette in decent condition all around, sells for around 7000 to 9000 on average. a friend just bought a real nice original 80 4 sp L82 (about an 8 or so out of 10 since it was all original and a real survivor in good condition) for 6500.00 and that was a real bargain. while it doesn't answer your question, perhaps it might shed some light on value at least in my geographic area.
