round key as you call it should work the glovebox lock, the rear center panel lock and the tire lock if they are original (and were keyed together). in addition it should also be the door key.
in a normal GM car the square key would be ignition and the round key would be glovebox, trunk and doors. vettes are special and have different key requirements as you've already figured out.
Do they also fit the ignition? This from the NCRS Judging guide: "Original keys have a square head for the doors and ignition in 1973 and for ignition only in 1974. An oval head key is for the rear storage compartment lock, spare tire lock and the alarm lock in 1973. In 1974, the oval head key also served to activate the door lock."
Sounds as if you locks may have been changed sometime in the cars history.
the square key on my 69 is for the doors and ignition. the oval key is for the center tray lock. just wondering, but is that what they consider the glove box in our older vettes?
I know my door locks were out at one point, presumably for paint, because they are actually upside down(teeth up), but I always figured they were still original. I have a square key for the ignition and a round key for the door locks. Not sure about the alarm and glove box though...alarm cylinder is corroded solid and storage compartment doors are missing.
