There was recently a lot of talk about selling your C5 for a C3 or selling your C3 for a C5. I bought my C3 last fall and promptly put it into storage. Today, I brought it out of storage and drove it on a number of errands around town. I don't think I got as many head-turns in two years of driving a new, always clean '02 as I got just today driving around town in my '81. Men, women, kids, cops - everyone. This is not the car to drive if you want to go unnoticed.
I had a 78 two-tone silver anniversary car and my former boss had a silver 02 Z-06. We were driving around having pictures made in various places trying to get our picture in a magazine. People kept coming up to talk about my 78 but ignored his Z-06 all day. He turned three different shades of green but at the end of the day we both knew who's car attracted more attention.
yup, last fall, stopped a light a Bimmer pulls up and looks me over...ha d the top down, and asked what year...I said 68, , dude gave me thumbs up...the only ones who will ignore you are the Porsche drivers...They won't even acknowledge that you're next to them...
Was in the 69 this morning on the freeway going to meet some friends, and this guy comes by tooting his horn holding his thumb up with a big grin, nodding his head...this happens all the time...even in the rubber bumper one...
Today I was driving past a local park & 2 guys about 19-20 years old were playing basketball. They saw my car, stopped cold, and pointed at the Vette. I almost stopped to make sure it wasn't on fire
Well I'm driving around with open headers (which I won't be doing until my carb comes back from lars hah) so I get even MORE attention since it shakes buildings and sets off car alarms everywhere it goes. So many times people pull up to me and ask questions or if I drive it to class (3 miles away so the gas doesn't bother me) people will ask if I'll start it in the parking lot so they can hear how loud it is.
I see 1 - 10 C5s a day. I see 1 C3 a day (mine) on average, sometimes 2 or 3 because someone down the street owns one and another a few blocks away owns one that's in serious need of a paint job.
Had this discussion with a C5 owner last week, I told him his rides nicer than my C3 and he said, "Your C3 is the most recognized Corvette generation." And yes when it was on the road it turned alot of heads could have been because it was loud, could have been I'm a girl driving it.
I had just my freshly redone rolling frame out yesterday, so that I could clean the shop some, and I had so many people stop to ask questions that I had to roll it into the neighbors garage, just so I could get some work done. Man, I can't wait to get this car done and go crusin'..
Later,
Sly
Parked next to a brand new stang on friday at the local bank. A crowd gathered around the vette... 2 people on a balcony looking too. People wave all the time...
...when I drove my '75 down to last year's Corvette Forum Cruise-In @ Bowling Green, KY-everywhere I stopped, whether to eat, get gas, rest area-people were coming up to me asking what year is it, did you buy it new, what size motor is in it, etc. and this is with just a nice, driven 153,000mi Silver/Silver '75 coupe with Maaco paint.
I have people stop me in parking lots, yell questions to me at stop lights, heads turn, oh my!
I love it!
C3s command attention, no doubt about it.
That is sooo true....everyone turns their heads when they glimps an awesome shark in the corner of their eye...Twice last fall I was at a stop sign and as people walked by,they keep yelling...BURN RUBBER..
