Right now I have my 70 vette insured through Nationwide. I must have an appraisel for the policy. The last time I had it appraised was in 97. With the value of these cars going up I should get another appraisel. I tried the other year and found out that the price of an appraisel has gone through the roof. I think it was 300 dollars! I thought the easy way to go would be with a collector car insurance company with an agreed value. I was thinking 30,000 would be a good number. Any opinions? Also right now I pay $394 a year. I was thinking about Grundy or Hagarty. Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death.

I don't work for State Farm... but if you have access to them you might ask them about their "antique/collectors" policy. As I recall, the car has to be 25+ years old and not a DD. I was surprised at how low the rate was...
As for value, there was a thread here yesterday about what would it take for someone off the street to buy your car from you. If you can come up with that number, that might be an indicator.
Then there's the "Pro-Team" approach... find a similar car on Ebay, take its final selling price and then add a zero just to the left of the decimal point.
You can get a appraisal for about $45 on Ebay. Take good pictures, put an honest description. Give it a $100,000 reserve. If it sells, great. If it doesn't, then you know what a willing buyer would pay for it. ($40 to list, $5 for a reserve I think).
Now I am unsure if I qualify for hagerty. Right now my car is in a locked garage. In the summer I usally keep it locked in my enclosed car trailer. Grundy seemed to be better, they did not say anything about the garage. They were over 100 dollars less a year then what I am paying now.

Anyone have any problems with grundy?
Did you try Stoudts for an appraisal since you are so close?

I bought my car there. I got an appraisel and went back there for service. They told me that they would have given me one for free. I said it would have been what I paid for it, they aggreed. I then stated to them that my appraisel was over 6,000 dollars more than they sold it to me for. They then said that I got a good appraisel.
