A question for the forum.......I know the last big block was in 74 and I know that in 75 all that has been available is the 350. But...when did GM put the first 350 into the Corvette?
I'm pretty sure Camaros had 350's in 68. Late 80's California Vettes also had 305's.
L82, L83, L98, LT1, LT4, LT5, LS1, LS6 are all designated as 5.7 litres/350CI.(346 CI for the LS series)
The LS2 is 6 litres, LS7 is 7 litres and the forthcoming LS4 is 6.2 litres.

My 68 Firebird HO had a 350 325HP engine, traded it in 1970 for my present Corvette.
Yes, but that was a Pontiac engine and not a Chevy. I believe it wasn't until the 3rd gen firebirds got the corporate GM 350/305 AKA Chevy small block.
We have now officially veered off the original question. Yes, SEPTEMBER 1968 (according to black book) the 350 was installed the 1969 model year as base(300hp) and L46(350hp) motor.

thats right, in fact that was what I had before the vette
1967 rs/ss 350 camaro with 4 speed. came with chrome chevrolet script valve covers and chrome lid on teh snorkel air cleaner, had a oil fill tube and a wide ratio muncie. deluxe custom bucket interior with factry head rests. Oh man i think im gonna cry
The vett didnt get it till 69 though. 68 was the last year of the 327, and in fact it was a 1 year 327 with large journals, yeah you guessed it the same as on the "new" 350. So a 68 327 can be coverted to a 350 with a swap of pistons to change the stroke ( wrist pin is in a different location)
Thats what i have in my 68 now

The 2nd generation Firebirds got the Chevy 350 in the late '70s. My 1978 Firebird has a Chevy 305 (though not for long, I just purchased a Pontiac 455 block).

Not true same crank (hence the large journal), same rods too
trust me on this one
Nope, 68 327 does have a large journal crank like a 350, but it has a 3.25" stroke (same as a 307) while the 350 and 305 have a 3.484" stroke. The rods are the same for all large journal SB motors except 400.
Thanks for all the good info! I suspected it was close to the beginning of our C3 but nice to know for sure....A lot of you have done a lot of homework. Thanks again.
