he may be thinking NOS for "new old stock" then his explanation would be correct (assuming it was the correct application)...where you are saying NOM for "not original motor"

that is a loaded question, and it can have a loaded answer. to be truthfull you are both right. if you want me to go into detail let me know
The term NOM means, very simply, "NON ORIGINAL MOTOR"
Do I have to tell you what that means? OK, it means that the engine in the car is NOT THE ORIGINAL MOTOR that it had when it left the factory. The current motor could be a CE, warranty replacement engine, still NOM, the replacement could be a modern crate engine, still NOM, the engine could be an electric/diesel hybrid, still NOM, the engine could be a restoration engine that has all the same numbers that the original engine had, including the vin derivative stamping on the engine pad - that would still be NOM, not the original motor, but it could be represented as original by a fraudster. It could also be called "matching numbers" if all the numbers matched, but since it is not the original motor it would be NOM. The non-original motor may or may not be "correct", and it may or may not be "matching numbers" but if it did not come in the car from the factory, it is N - O - M.
