Default 79 Radiator removal

Been watching" BarryK"s postings about His battle with His radiator
and how it appeared He was going to have to remove core support
and AC condensor to remove radiator.Have been planning on removing
the one in My 79 and replacing with DeWitts alum. that I bought during
the GP sale. After reading all of "BarryK"s problems I was more than a
little apprehensive about getting started on mine.Anyway started this
morning at 9:00 and at 11:00 had that puppy sitting on the garage
floor, working by Myself.Did not remove hood ,did not cut trans. cooling
hoses, everything came apart just fine and lifted it right out. Just thought I would post this in case anyone else is planning to remove
radiator,if everything goes right its not a difficult job.

glad it worked for you!
mine is STILL in the damn car.
I didn't hose the trans hoses, I was able to get them off the hardlines but it won't fit out of the car.
I decided I'm opening the AC system so I can remove the condensor in the front of the coresupport, thasn i'll remove the core support and get that &*@$#*@ radiator out of there.

It will be better than way anyway so I will have more access to the front of the frame to clean up and with the core support out i'll repaint it so in the long run it will be worth it but it shouldn't be this difficult to get the rad out without doing all that.

I would think a 78 and 79 would be virtually identical,and I had
plenty room between A-Arm and bottom hose connection on radiator.
For the life of Me I can't figure out why Yours would be different than
My 79.If there is anything You want Me to measure or describe the
way it looks on mine let Me know.

Chevy, do you have the original shroud in? That's what's usually the problem, not so much the rad.

Star79, You are so right about the shroud. In the 79 Corvette
GM shop manual the first step to remove the shroud is" remove radiator
first" then remove shroud.

yep, there is NO WAY that shroud is coming out without the radiator out first.

Andy, I see you are here and watching the thread. You available tomorrow at all? I got the AC system opened and the core support and condenser all unbolted but to pull both out at the same time is not a one person job. It's not the weight so much as the bulk and i don't want to bang the fins on the condensor so could use a hand if you had a little time to spare.
