I know, not another, "whats it worth" thread. But I really dont have any idea.
Im going to look at a 1968 Corvette convertible, originally a 427 390 HP motor car and now has a 454, original muncie 4-speed. Not original paint, black/black, was Lemans/Lemans. Has the optional vinyl covered hard top. Paint is rough as is the interior. Does have some rust on the very back of each frame rail. Basically a project car, that runs and drives.
Yeah, he's asking 11k for it and I might be able to get it for 10. Its also missing the original hood.
See, my wife has given me the okay to get something, but it has to be something that Im not gonna loose any money on. And I thought that it being a 427 car (although its missing) it would be a decent investment even if I didnt do anything to it and drove it for a while as is. She wants to make sure its an investment, I want it because I love Corvettes, so it has to work for both.
Thanks.

If the interior is shot plan an spending 2k getting that up if you do it yourself. Also I'm assuming the car runs if brakes are shot another $500 plus any suspension work. Are the frame rails rusted through? does it have a/c doubt it if it's a 4 speed you've got a lot to consider is the finished value going to be worth more when your done adding in total parts cost? Especially with non original motor you may want to hold you fire there will be another one trust

10k?
10k sounds about right!! If the frame is really bad so that it can't be fixed without taking the body off, I would even pay less..
I would say 10k may be a reasonable bottom price for the car-especially if it has some options on it. It will part out in that range assuming that it is all there, even with a bad frame. BB bumper verts are not cheap these days.
If the frame is not rotted - I'd say 10k is decent.
If rotted with NOM, aftermarket hood, bad paint and bad interior ....
I'd doubt you could part it out for 10k.
Plan on 2k interior and 6k paint. With good frame, you would
be into the vette for 18k. This is close to the NADA numbers if you deduct for NOM.
Cars are a very bad investment. Real estate.
