Default Insulating interior - firewall?

Okay guys, so for my upcoming spring break I've decided to tear out the interior in my 72 coupe and lay down some Damplifier Pro with Reflectix on top. I'm going to do everything that has carpet over it, as well as the door panels. I'm still undecided on whether I should do the firewall or not - how much of a pain in the butt is it to remove the dash and gauge panels? I wouldn't do behind the driver's side dash/steering column, but I would do behind the center gauge bezel and passenger side dash...is it worth it?

Default My 72 re-do

I am in the midst of the same project.
From what I have read and heard the benefits are well worth the effort.
My interior is almost completed and I still take a ride every week.
The interior is noticeably cooler(I live in Florida)
First of all LABEL all the wires and take pictures before hand. Go to Home depot and buy the double sided foil faced with a jute material sandwiched between the foil. Also get some foil tape to seal the joints..
don't blame me if you find a hundred other things to restore while you are doing the insulation....that's what happened to me. Heater core/new lenses/new A/C vents & seals/new seat covers/new vacuun lines/carpet...it happens. A total interior restore!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice

Couple stupid questions first :o Is the foil/jute material you mentioned just Reflectix? Aslo, what is the purpose of the foil tape and exactly what joints should I put it on? Thanks again!

Reflectix is heavy-duty bubble wrap stuff with foil. My local ACE hardware store had it in automotive-labeled rolls (made by Reflectix) for slightly less than the cost for home HVAC use. The jute/foil stuff is different...it has jute felt material with a layer of foil on one side. That was the factory heat/sound shield.

Default Materials

The stuff I used had the foil (both sides).

I DON'T know the name....

The tape is just to seal the joints.
