I'm looking at a '71 corvette, which had a wonderful Maaco paint job . I've always been planning on repainting whatever I purchased, so I'm not TOO worried about that. My main questions are, I don't know what "a lot of rust" looks like (ANY rust is bad?). I've never had anything to compare to, so how does this frame look, rust-wise? Same goes for overspray; How much of a problem does this look to be? No body damage on the car, non-original motor, and I'm looking at about $10k. Any opinions welcome!
If the general opinion is "oh god!@#$!@# don't do it!@#$!#@" I will have something to compare against in my future searches .
hard to tell on those pics check the frame just in front of the back wheels
there is a common spot for rust
Also check the birdcage for rust, check the bottom of the a pillars by removing the panel in front of the doors inside the car.
check around the front window also, and post some pics of that here to so we can all se how it looks and advise
The a-arm rubber looks shot but the frame looks Ok here. Check the area around the t-arms and look inside the birdcage post. You will need to remove the kick panels inside the car to see them. Check the area around the door hinges. Check the lower part where the body mounts and bolts are. You don't want to go through what I did to fix my 73. Body-off
The car is 35 yrs old. Of course there will be some rust, but the pictures show only surface rust. If there is no frame or windshield frame rust damage, go for it.
