Just purchased a 1975 Convertible. No documentation other than trim tags, VIN, etc. Trim tag specifies exterior color as Bright Green, Interior as Saddle Leather. Vin specifies L48. Thats all clean. Is there any indication as to the convertible top color. This one is the saddle but what if it were changed to white? Any point deductions, seeing as there may be no way of ever knowing what was originally on the car. It would be great if 1975 VIN's be traced back history wise to gather the correct info. Any chance?
I have owned my bright green metalic, 4-speed, 1975 Vert since 1982. It has a white top. I don't have the window sticker. But I do have the Scheduled Price Sheet with all the options called out. It says:
19R Folding Convertible Top Black. I don't know if the window (or tank) sheet(s) called it out as to color. (I may be dropping my tank this spring.)
So sometime between July 1975 and 1982, one of the first two owners changed the top.
I don't think so, unless you can find your build sheet, records for '75s are not available. Unlike other GM cars that list upper/lower colors, Vette's don't. I looked at my trim tag and noticed "D20" in the RH upper corner, I'm not sure what this code is. Mine still had the original top when I bought it, and it's white with a black vinyl interior. It also had a hardtop but the original owner sold it. Since we have 3 bright green vert's here, it would be interesting to know what that code is. As rare as bright green is, 3 of them on this page.

Replying to your last message, The Vette I just purchased is also a Bright Green Convert with Saddle interior and top. Also has the green h/top. Your trim tag "D20" translates to Jan 20th. ("A" was the start of production month - October. B=Nov, C=Dec, D=Jan. The Paint code on the trim tag should read 42 for "Bright Green" It may also have an "L" after the 42 which has no apparent meaning. The black interior trim code should read "19V" for vinyl and "192" for leather.
It may also have an "L" after the 42 which has no apparent meaning.
...the "L" stands for "LOWER", when they started two toning cars in the mid '70s. This started with 1974 Corvette paint codes.
...the "theoretical" number of 1975 coupes is 1454 cars, and the "theoretical" number of 1975 Bright Green convertibles is "199" cars.
...Jim Shea probably has one of the "rarest" cars on the Forum. Only 366 '75 L-82 convertibles were built in 1975 with ONLY "15" L-82 Bright Green convertibles built(theoretically).
Paul....How did you arive at 199 convertibles, is it an estimate based on a percentage between regular production coupes and convertibles?
...yeah, just a "theoretical" percentage number based on coupe production vs convertible production vs number of Bright Green painted Corvettes in 1975.
...I did the same thing for a Bright Green L-82 convertible. The number "366" L-82 convertibles is real though, according to a letter dated real late in 1975(after 1975 Corvette production was done)I have from GM.

...Ed, thanks for the link-very nice, but I'd have to have an L-82 without the A/C. That car is beautiful, for sure-even has the smog still on it. Has the manual windows that I like.
