Fresh Q-Jet !
A little fun here ... ok? I installed my freshly rebuilt Q-Jet today on my 72 base 350. It was rebuilt by a well known forum member and to put it mildly....I am IMPRESSED. Bolted right on and fired up on the 2nd spin. Idles perfect at about 850 in P and a perfect 600 in D. Smoother than I have ever seen this car ... perfect idle.!
Here's the funny.... .....Drove it gently for about 5 miles and was totally amazed at the smoothness and new power. Then I stopped on a long isolated straight stretch of hwy 140. Easily accelerated to about 5000 rpm and manually shifted from 1 to 2. I am acustom to a good chirp of the tires here. I thought the damn thing exploded...it went completely sideways and left about 8 feet of double black marks right across the yellow lines......followed by a huge plume of white smoke behind the car. I was loving it ! Best damn carburator I have ever seen.
Here's more funny.... .....The white smoke was a result of it blowing the rubber inlet hose off the transmission fluid cooler at the radiator when it hit 2nd gear. I made it home and am in the process of cleaning it up and replacing the hoses. I needed to service the tranny anyway.
Best Q-Jet I've ever seen......I had a bunch of them...but none as good as this one!
i have a holly 700 on my car now. It was the one on it when i bought it. I just can't seem to get it to respond to my tuning. I have the original q jet that is in decent shape. May i ask who rebuilt it for you, if you sent it to them and they sent it back, how much, etc. Just curious if they do this regularly as a job, unless it was just a friend doing it for you. Thanks for your time, congratulations on your outcome
ahh, i thought you might be talking about lars but i figured it would have been mentioned outright. I think there is a long line of people waiting for lars to work his magic. I'll send an email anyway to get the info down on paper. Thanks for you help guys
Lars won't be doing carbs for a year... he's rebuilding his test rig.
Monte speaks the truth. I think mine will be one of the last few he does before he starts rebuilding. I absolutely can't wait to get mine back from him after reading these threads.

Welcome to the club. I am a grown man and
I am waiting like a kid at Christmas time.

I think mine MIGHT be the last one.........
He said he wasn't accepting any carbs after March 15th. I sent mine to him Monday morning (the 13th) so i know he probably didn't get it until yesderday or or maybe he's getting it today which is after the 15th.
luckily he said I could send it anyway.
He worked on my other car (the '65) at a Tuning for Beer session last Sept so i look forward to getting my carb back from him for this car.
i know very little about working on Holley's and I know NOTHING about working on Q-Jets so it was a no-brainer for me
