so, who hates the c6?
Stylists can't go too retro for success. A new design is penned years ahead of introduction, so stylists have a lot to consider from different generations to life style changes that will occur before D-day. The design needs to be fresh and project an image of it's own. We never had retro styling before, stylists always came up with new trends and the public looked forward to seeing them every year. Does anyone line up at the showroom door on intro date anymore? Is there an intro dat anymore? A new car was a new car, not a copy. Compare the new Camaro and Challenger concepts. DC basically built a brand new 1970 Challenger, it's cool, but it's not fresh, it's a copy, (can I say clone) and the Mopar faithful will drool over it, but will they really buy it and for how long? GM has the right idea with the Camaro, do a modern interpretation and add just the right amount of retro to please the masses and don't rebadge anther Holden saying that this is the modern interpretation of todays GTO. Although, I think the Mustang is probably at the retro limit, the design is fresh enough to be a modern interpretation but Ford is limited in evolving that car without losing it's character. The C6 has enough C2 styling cues to be fresh but not overdone. I think it's right on.

As others have said, comparing the styling to a C3 is pointless, the important thing is the philosophy behind it's design ie. the best bang for the buck available with the current technology & good sales figures in its target market. I think each successive generation of Vette managed that well & the C6 has probably done it best of all. I gotta admit that I don't like the gaping mouth at the front, but that wouldn't stop me buying one. If I had the cash available for a new car then the C6 would be right up the top of my list of choices. Would I sell the C3 to finance buying it? oBllox! That's not being derogatory to the C6, the fact is that I wouldn't sell my C3 for any modern car.Comparing the performance & handling between any generation of Vettes is just dumb, technology moves on so each successive generation should outperform the previous (unless external factors, such as smog laws in the 70's, limit the designer's options).
One big thing in the C6's favour is that Jeremey Clarkson, a man famed for hating US cars, is rumoured to like it. If that's the case then it speaks volumes for how it's succeeded in competing with other sports cars from around the world.
As for the overall style, I don't think it's perfect, it's not how I'd ideally like it but manufacturers have a mountain of rules & regulations to comply with, then they get the laws of physics demanding designs that give low drag coeficients so that they can get the speed/economy required, and so on. This is why most modern cars look, to me, like variations on a central theme: a computer designed jellybean with 4 wheels on it.
Have you seen the Ariel Atom?

Intresting observation! I saw an article somewhere where a guy did a v8 swap into the sister car of the Sky, cant remember the name at the moment but it was pretty cool and of course, fast.
