Default Antenna Cable

Where exactly does the radio antenna cable enter into the cabin at?

I was thinking of replacing my antenna but if it's going to be a major PITA then I may wait until I redo the interior carpet this summer.

(1982 Vette btw)

thx

On my 79 it was rear upper corner of the cabin in the back. You may want to wait till you do carpet, it's clipped to the body in about 10 places and you'll have to pull the carpet out of the way all the way to the front of the car anyway.

This is correct - PTA. The cable does enter the rear compartment on the drivers side and then runs over the top of the wheel weel and down a channel just behind the drivers rear interier quarter panel/door molding. When the moulding is removed you should be able to feel or pull back the carpet and see the cable. The cable then runs along and just under the sill plate and then up through the driver front kick plate and into the dash.

If the carpet is out then you can yank the whole cable out but why....
If you need to do some wotk take your care to Best Buy, Circuit City or such and the guys in the car audio depratment can refit the ends of the cable if needed - they do that stuff all day long. The even offered to do mine for free at Best Buy since I bought a radio from them. The male plug at the end of my atenna cable came loose and they feel very. very cnfident that can retrofit the plu to work with a new set up.

A lot of guys are just leaving the stock radio in place but moving a new unit to one of the rear compartments and then running a new antenna cabcel from the rear compartment to the antenna, just drilling a small hole out through the bottom of the rear compartment for the cable to exit to the antenna.

I ran my new antenna cable through the existing hole and then up through the e-brake console and then through the center console. Wasn't all that bad of a job probably an hour.

I ended up buying a new antenna and splicing it into the existing cable myself.

The hardest part of the whole thing was removing the old power antenna assembly without dropping the muffer to get to it !

I went with a fixed mast instead of another power antenna. I figured that would be one less thing that could malfuntion.

Reception is great and the new antenna looks good! Another project to scratch off the list!
