Default found a bumper vette

a friend told me where he saw a bumper vette that has been sitting for a while in the front lawn of someones house. so i've always wanted a bumper vette so we went to look at it today and there was no for sale sign on it, but it looked like it hasnt moved in awhile.
it has the cheese grader vents in the side. thats a ? 70-73 i think. it was orange with brown interior, auto, has the stingray emblems on it and looks all original except the rims. body is in very good shape, i looked for cracks or repairs and found none. the chrome bumpers are in good shape and are lined up perfect to the body.
anyway we got the phone # thru work and i called the house tonight and asked if it was for sale and the owner said actually yes he would sell it
i said how much and he said he would like to get at least 6,000.00 for it.
so tomorrow i go look at it and talk to him. is it worth 6k?
i have a brand new 454 with dart sqaure port heads, intake, dominator, ect. that i put in my monte carlo ss that i havent even started up yet and also a brand new th350 with tci 3500 converter that i would love to put in a bumper vette. i'll take some pics tomorrow of it when i go look at it. i might be taking it home this week

I'd say it's worth that, but hey, I'm spending your money and that's easy for me to say.

check for rust in the usual spots... birdcage, frame, framrails etc... but 6g's sounds like a good deal for a chrome bumper.

good luck.

im not too familiar with c3s yet, but im guessing the birdcage is the windshield frame. i think it chrome around the windshield unlike my 82 which is black around it. exactly where do i check for rust. besides
under the car, frame, ect. can i see any rust from the inside around the windshield or will it just be on the outside.

why couldnt it be a 4speed car oh well. i'll post some pics tomorrw night to get some opinions on it.

yes, the birdcage is the windshield frame.... and its a notorious spot for rust in these cars. take a look thru the glass and inspect closely all around the edges of the windshield. Also, bring a flashlight along when you check out the car. take a good look up behind the dash/kick panel area where the birdcage uprights meet the body of the car. It may be tough to see up there, but you'll save yourself a whole lot of trouble in the long run if you give it a good peek. its not an easy fix, and plauges many C3's.

The birdcage is the steel support structure inside the body, including the windshield frame and rocker channels.

well i went today after work to look at it close and to talk to the owner.
it is a 72 and the little tag on the console says 350ci, 11.00:1 compression, 370hp, 380tq. which engine did it come with. it has a new crate engine 350 in it and it ran well. i was shocked. the owner does have the original engine in the garage. i checked under the car good and it has just surface rust. the birdcage has a little rust along the drivers side but not bad and the pass side is perfect. i can still see the orange paint on it. the interior is shot!!!! the body isnt bad at all. well i bought it for $5900.00 and picking it up tomorrow night after work.
i cant wait to get to work on it this weekend

Lucky bastard.

Post your suffix code off your original block and your VIN and we will help fill in the gaps.

The 72 plate had motor cubic inch size, foot pounds of torgue and compression ratio. They werent too happy with the HP ratings due to changes in the way it was calculated and left that out lol.

for that price I think it would be safe to assume that it would not be a #'s vette, that being said it frees you up to do whatever you like to the car and thoroughly enjoy it.
