Default Hurst Shifter or Factory?

When I bought my Vette, it already had a Hurst shifter in it. But part of me feels like I want the car to look more factory.

What do you guys think, replace it with a factory shifter or keep the Hurst?

If it works good, get the factory look a like handle from one of the Vette supply houses for about $90. It has the round shaft and fake "t"
handle and it replaces the Hurst shift lever.

No sense in changing the entire shifter if there isn't any problem with it.
This would only require dismantling the console.

Hey, that looks pretty good. Might just do that.

Im assuming the "T" is just for show, correct?

I've been wondering about this for a while too... How much of an improvement do the aftermarket shifters provide?

That's the only picture I could find. All you would be buying is the new new shift lever down to where it attaches to the shifter with 2 bolts. The entire shifter remains intact. The "t" handle is for looks.

I got Hursts shortest handle for my shifter and put a slight bend in itto clear the console. Compared to the Corvette comp plus shifter it looks and feels really cool !! I just wish I could find a chrome ball for it.

Anyone know if the length of this look-alike shifter is comparable to the factory shifter?

And how much of a pain will this be to replace?

Here is the one Im considering:

Looks good. I just want to make sure I get the right version. Black **** or chrome. I like the chrome though...

Not hard to replace the handle through the console. Stock '76 was the black chrome ball. A new ball came with the new look alike handle. It's the least they could do after ripping you off, $90 +/-, for a shifter handle. Yes, I paid it because I wanted the stock look inside and would never give up my Hurst.

What is the advantage of the Hurst vs. the GM shifter?

The Chrome **** is the stock OEM from the factory for your year. Glad your keeping the hurst you will get better shifts & w/the factory shifter it will look cool.

hurst shifts much nicer then stock. Mine had Hurst shifter with t handle when i got it and i replaced with the black **** replica t. I had to bend my shifter handle a bit as it did not line up good when i got it but after that it was easy ro install.

OK, one person said I should get the black ****, and someone else said the chrome. Anyone positive what belongs on a 76?
