'78 project making progress
almost finished stripping the old paint off the motor, only some stubborn areas I still need to work on:
motor
motor
mostly have the exhaust manifolds done. They were glass beaded than painted with Eastwoods Factory Gray exhaust manifold paint.
The only thing left on them is to get some hi-temp black paint for the AIR Injector tubes plus I'll get some gold paint to mist the check valves on the top of the tubes to simulate the gold cad plating they originally were
exhaust manifolds
pretty muich all the parts removed off the motor such as the intake, brakets, pullys, fanblade, fuel pump, alternator, AIR pump, valve covers, radiator, core support, AV evaporator, pretty much all the various hoses and clamps, etc, etc have all been cleaned up, repainted or whatever was required for the parts particular finish, and are ready to me reinstalled when the time comes.
I'm hoping to get the motor finshed with the stripping today so I can repaint it tomorrow. Than I can start on the frame and front suspension clean-up in the car and hopefully get it completed and repainted by the end of next week so I can get the motor dropped back in the car next weekend (about 10 days from now).
That's my plan anyway as long as i can stay on schedule!
thanks for the comment on my website. it's my first time I ever built one and i'm still making changes to it to try to improve it, make it easier to use, etc. besides my regular updates as my projects go along
If you want stuff to look like gold cad you should remove most of the rust, polish with some wire wool and drop it off at a galvanizing plant and ask them to yellow normalize it. If you have more items bring them all at once because they charge per drum load so 1 or 1000 items is about the same price if they have to run a seperate drum for it
I only have a couple of items that I need to redo that were originally gold cad plated. They are all cleaned up but the gold cad is gone from them. It's not inprtant enough to me to go thru the expense and hassle of having them replated so a light misting of gold paint will work fine for my purposes. i'm not going for judging, just trying to make it look better. If you saw any of the "before" pics of the car's motor and engine bay on my site you will see that ANYTHING I do will be an improvement!
nah, as much as I like this car, after i'm done this one I think I'll go back on try to find another C2 or even a C1 to work on next. These C3's are too tight trying to work under the hood not to mention all the extra "crap" to have to deal with between all the emission & smog componets, vacuum system, etc.
The next C3 project I do i'll wait until I can at least find a chrome bumper car like a '69 or '70. They are still more work than a C1 or C2 but not as bad as the later models like this '78!
Well, it's a learning experience though
I can't wait to see it as a nice, clean, shiney, freshly painted motor!
