Default bent trailing arm - rebend it?

I know I know, buy a new one. I've ordered one. I was thinking though, would it be possible to position a jack or something against it and bend it back for driving in the meantime? Right now the drivers-side trailing arm is bent so that it is toed out. The shims are all on the outer side trying to correct it but it isn't enough. I've wondered if I could try and bend it back (without taking it off) to correct the toe-in before the new one arrives.

You might get away with it for awhile..but chances are,it would bend again..

BTW:are you still looking for that drop base air cleaner ? Think you wanted the single snorkel....I may have found a source here...

I restraightened one of mine, but I used a 20 ton press off the car. I doubt seriously that it will bend back, they are very tough.

Rihwoods, yep still looking - not exactly actively looking, but keeping my eyes open. What did you find?

WOW, did it really need 20 tons worth? They must be tough. Im hoping I can get it swapped out over the weekend. If my delivery gets here. Is that enough time?

They look like they are in good shape. There is a local (somewhat) guy that wants $75 for the whole assembly, but as I mentioned earlier, I ONLY need the base - the rest I have. Let me know if you find anything.

Thanks rihwoods

Thanks

It bent in the first place because it got hit from the side, smaked a curb maybe. Bending it back is possible, but not recomended on the car. Possible to destort the pivot mount at the front. Pull it and straighten it out and bee good to go. No reason to think it will bend again unless you hit something (again)

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Depending on when My TA gets here..... This car did have a previous "ouch" on the drivers side rear quarter panel. Probably never tried to fix the TA. Car has been through quite a few owners, probably because they didn't know what they were doing enough to try a new TA.

Default jury's in - the TA was bent !!!

Notice how far off the top of the TA's are? Im glad it was this obvious otherwise it would have meant my frame was bent. sigh of relief when we saw this.

He rich, did your buddy have a air cleaner base?

Yup, that one is bent, but not to bad. If you're going to toss it in the trash, I'll be happy to pay you shipping to send it to Virginia....

hmmmm. turns out, my car STILL pulls right on acceleration and pulls back left on deceleration. The only thing left is the passenger side TA bushing. Could that be the remaining link?

List of replaced parts trying to find this:
1) Differential side yoke - really did need replaced
2) Strut rods - these were bent, now are adjustable
3) driver's side TA - this was bent
4) driver's side rear caliper - brake bleeders broke off

5) now the bushing on other TA - I already have it, but Im afraid the bleeders will break off too - resulting in yet another new caliper!!

Anything else could cause this pulling right and then left?

desperate,
Jeremy
