Default Sidepipes are finally on!!

Got the black sidepipes on and they sound great. Wife says it sounds like two Harleys driving next to each other. Wondering one thing though, the doors scrape on the pipes, was wondering if any of you had the same problem and what ya did about it...

cant wait to see the photos of the sidepipes on the car.

I have not heard of any others with the problem of hitting the sidepipes on the doors.

Well...either the doors are too low or the sidepipes are too high!

I'd start with the pipes...

Default Sidepipes hitting door

When I put my hooker headers and sidepipes on my 78 the door would scrape the pipe when you opened the door. You just have to loosen them up where they go on to the header and just give them a little turn down towards the floor and then tighten them up.It is a lot eaiser to do with two people one turning them and hold them in place while the other pearson tightens them. Also make sure they are ajusted tight where they mount on the frame. It took me a little while but they work fine know. When the door is open I have enough room to put my finger between the sidepipe and the door.I also changed the bolt that you tighten the sidepipe to the header I used a stainless allen head bolt and nut that was abit longer then the wone they give you I thing mine is 2in long I was able to tighten it much better.

Just got done putting an extra layer of high temp paint on the headers and pipes to keep em nice and rust free. A bunch of my neighbors in my apartment complex have been coming out one at a time it seems to listen to it

I got them from Summit, I didn't do ALL the installation myself, I had the guy at the shop help me for like a quarter of the price if he just would have done it. I removed more stuff than I thought I was going to. Smog stuff went bye bye. I'll make a video of it in a couple days with my camera and post it. All my engine is is the stock 1979 L82, but damn it still sounds mean as hell.

Do you have the part number? I just ordered the true dual for my 76 from Mid America but might have to cancel that order. Think they would help my little L48?

What kind of inserts you running?? Spiral baffles?? Those look real good....I had the same problem on my '78 with the doors rubbing, and like was previously mentioned, it was just a matter of tweaking the pipes down a little to get the clearance right.

I run uncapped spiral baffles in mine....my neighbors "love" me.

I was thinking in the area of the Hookers. We are painting our car black, and are going to have Chrome pipes. What did you pay for them?
They look great!

hotwater I'm sure they'd help even your L48, probably not quite as loud but that all depends on taste. I'm running mine completely straight piped from the headers right to the pipes with no inserts (I like it loud) I'll try to get me and my friend today to fix the pipes so they don't hit the doors, do you just unbolt them and push em down a tiny bit?

loosen them where they clamp to the headers and tweak them down to where yo get the desired clearance....then tighten the bolt again where they clamp to the header collector.

Thats awesome that you are running them straight with no inserts. Watch out for the cops...hahaha.
