I yanked out my motor today on my '70. With 108k miles, it was time. Smoked a lot, and oil was very dirty, with only a few hundred miles on the oil. Except for the tranny mount and a corroded radiator support bolt, all went well and easy.
The motor's an L46. I have the new GM cam for it, and a few other small items, but will wait until I hear from the machinist what size pistons, etc. I'll need to get. This thing's pretty darn greasy; can't wait until it's shiny and back in the car.
How about my happenin' coveralls? I'm over 40 now, so wearing a jumpsuit is what old geezers do, right?
After just reading another thread over in the Tech section, if thats your original block, talk with your machinest about preserving your matching numbers!!!!!
good luck with the project...
oh, and if your not planning on going original.... STROKE IT!! the engine that is

I'm going to stay stock w/ this #'s matching motor. I plan on writing "do NOT deck" across the block deck, just in case they forget. Unless it's leaking, it shouldn't need to be decked.
