Space Needle is cool if you like expensive food. Last time I was there I got a chicken caesar salad and it cost like $22. Best tasting one ever though, and there was tons of everything. Also cool is that the top of the space needle rotates.
The have the experience music project too, never been there but I have heard its great.
If you are staying downtown or close to, go to the Pike Place Market. It is an open public market with lots of cool vendors and small business's. Also the EMP (Experience Music Project) at the Seattle Center is really cool. I do not know how old your kid is but if he likes music he will get a kick out of it. Ferry boat ride to Bremerton and back is neat also. Lots of Navy ships there, submarines, aircraft carriers, etc. It is about one hour ride over and another hour back. Hope this helps. From born and raised in Seattle.

Pike's Place Market is cool, as is the Underground City.
If you DO go to the Pike's Place Market and are a coffee aficionado (most people in Seattle are), stop in at the Starbucks in the Pike's Place Market. It's the very first Starbucks that started the chain.
They've also got exclusive gift cards that can ONLY be purchased there in the store; I've got one of them, which I recharge so that I have something to talk about to the girls here at the local Starbucks.
