Default 80 v. 81 Crossed Flags Differences?

The Corvette Black Book says that from 80 to 81, the "emblems did change slightly." Can anyone define those changes? Per chance, were the 80 flags a bit narrower? I ask because the emblem I received from Ecklers to mount on the wheel center cap looks a bit different from the rest on the car.

Why yes, I am feeling a bit **** retentive today. This is what happens when you spend all morning searching EDI files for good test data.

One year has black on the perimater of the emblem and one is chrome. Regretably, I can't remember which year is which.

I'll gladely take the 80 emblem off your hands. The checkered flag side of mine came off while I was driving the other day.

Good luck, I'd call them first before I ordered on-line. When I did the repaint and pulled all the emblems off my 81, I could find the gas cap everywhere but the front emblem is no longer made by GM and 3rd party inventories were depleted. I re-badged with 80 - there is no difference between 80 and 81, (found the 80 front on ebay - paid $60.00 at the time - so others selling for $150 for NOS). Some have said the 80 won't work on an 81 and vice versa - found that not to be true. The 80 slipped right into the same holes as the 81 I pulled off.

I have an 80's front emblem on my desk. It was advertised as an '81.

On the back, one of the tabs is broken off, but I think you glue it down as they are not threaded. Looks good!! Not perfect, but I'd say 80% of a new one.

PM me your address...........I'll send it to ya. It's just a paper weight now!!

Wrong.......there is a difference, however very minor, and most wouldn't notice. But to say there is no difference?

When that catalog came out (showing the '81 nose logo in stock at Eckler's) I called and ordered it. The guy taking the order said, "Wait a minute, did you say '81?" I said "Ya, the new catalog says you have it."

What he said next I can't quote here (it being a "G" rated forum and all), but it was something along the line of, "those stupid $%^(*&^ idiots!!! Are you telling me those %^$#@& did that again?"

I started to laugh and he came back with, "Oh sorry, but this ain't the first time this has happened."

Oh well, there's always e-bay and a C-note for a correct NOS '81 nose emblem....

I'd love to get a new one too, and get some hope whenever I get a new Eckler's, but then I check the website... Never there.

I've never understood why every other year is readily available, just not mine.

Oh well. If anyone finds an aftermarket supply of them (I'm too cheap for the real thing) Post it here in BIG LETTERS so I'll see it!!
