Hope you enjoy the show and i'm sure the Beast will do great!
Acetone, although a relatively harmless organic solvent, is pretty effective for removing paint. Actually it's quite strong. It removes paint by just dissolving it. It doesn't interact or destroy the paint being removed. It evaporates very quickly.
Lacquer Thinner: Same as Acetone, but not quite as aggressive as a solvent as Acetone. Lacquer thinner can be more practical as a solvent. Acetone is really the best solvent, but it evaporates extremely fast. Cleaning parts with acetone can be frustrating since the stuff just evaporates so quickly. Lacquer thinner does not evaporate so quickly. So you can take time to clean parts and actually do a better and more effective job.
The good thing about acetone and lacquer thinner is that they evaporate quickly, and like alcohol, they tend to be less of a fire hazard than gasoline or more oily like solvents.
