I completed the first overall sanding with 180 and was in the process of starting to fill some of the small scratches, chips and put the first coat on the bonding seams, when I looked at the can of panel adhesive I bought.
It is Evercoat vette panel adhesive for SMC and fiberglas panels, is this the wrong type? I just looked at Lars paper and some other old posts and it seems like it might be wrong.
It gets very confusing . vette panel adh. is the right product in evercoats plastic repair systems.IT should go on bare surface fiberglass or smc and a much coarser grit to adhere. It's not made for structural repair on smc ,but is used for fiberglass. claim is no shrinkage and less mapping ,also simular density to expand and contract the same .Just check your grit. what is funny (not realy) is evercoat says you can use rage extreme, rage gold, rage, lite weight, urosoft, everglass kitty hair, tiger hair, smc panel adesive....thats just one brand.....you are doing fine, more important is surface prep, temps.,cure time and your next product type what grit it requires for adhesion. I prefer rage extreme.
Thanks for the help, its down to the fiberglass right now so after some filling and fixing I'll be ready to shoot the coat of epoxy primer.
I did go back to the evercoat web site last night and they only list one type of the panel adhesive, but the picture shows the old can that says for non-smc but thats not what my can says
I will get back to work tonight and hopefully get something accomplished. Come April 17th I'll be able to take some time off and work a couple of days strait to get ready for paint
The Evercoat 994 panel adhesive is fine if you have it, it spreads easy. I would use Evercoat 870, Vette panel adhesive/filler. A little heavier bodied, but not as strong for bonding. More useful for larger fill areas, like shrunken bonding seams. It also sands a little easier than 994.
Thanks G, I do have the 870 Stuff, mainly I'm going to use it for small scratches and gouges, plus where I groove out the bonding seems a little.
The seams have no cracking but they were covered during a prior respray with some green stuff, so I want to get that out since I used stripper on the car.
