My pillar moldings were (are) in rough shape, so I purchased a new set.
Unfortunately, the fit is really bad on the new moldings (not even worth using). So...I purchased a Vinyl & Leather Repair kit to try repairing the original molding. I really didn't think it would work, but I figured I would give it a shot (it only cost $10). I wish I had a pic of the "before" to show you (there was a chunk missing the size of a quarter, about a quarter inch deep)... but I only have a pic after the repair. I may try
spraying some dye on the repaired area to make the repair blend in a little better. Anyone want to purchase a new set of moldings?
I purchased the kit at "Canadian Tire". I don't think you
guys have this store in the US (your not missing anything).
The kit I purchased is very similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-D...26453631QQrdZ1
Thanks for the tip. I have a piece of molding missing from the center t-top panel. That is the centerpiece that covers the t-top bar in the interior. I checked the replacement cost, and it was $190. I think I will try the $10 fix first. Nothing much to lose in this case, but $190 to gain.
Where did the new parts come from,I dont want to buy more -NEW- parts that end up being useless junk.
Corvette America...but in their defence, I don't think any
of the repro pillar moldings are any good.
The Dash pad I purchased from them was a perfect fit,
I'm very happy with that piece. Probably why I'm not to
pissed about the moldings
I POSTED A LOT OF PHOTOS ON INTERIOR REPAIR/DYE last year christmas time,,,, a lot of the stuff i used(which i really dont want to name) cracked out,,, so i tried fiberglass jelly/hardner..it really works good and once you dye it ,it blends right in..i used this on a crack in my arm rest.from my elbow digging in it adjusting my body weight,,so far its the best,,,thse kits have a shelf lifeof 6 mts or so,and i found they ant worth a crap,,,the only thing w/ the fiberglas jelly/hardner is you wont have a grain pattern,,,,im working on that
I think the repair looks great, and once you install the location of the repair will not even be noticeable.
I also have a new set that I tried putting on my '69 and could never get the holes to line up in the header and I just did not want to drill another set of holes. So, I have left my originals in place. AFter seeing your repair, it certainly would look better than the small damaged areas that I have.
