Well guys I thing I have driven the finest automobile, next to a c3,ever built today. One of the owners of the mazda dealership I work at came in today with a MINT 1983 Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible with 25k on the clock. He handed me the keys and had a few maintainance items he wanted done.Well i took it for a test drive and DAYUM!!!!! Words can't describe how great this car drove.Smooth is an understatment.I was VERY impressed and i have driven some fine cars in the past,Ferrari, lotus, porsche, but nothing compares to a rolls, truly a great experience. And now I get to go to work in the morning and figure out if I want to have one of my techs work on it or if i need to open the tool box and get busy.
I agree with the smooth ride. I drove one awhile back. The shifter doesn't even feel like it is shifting from park to drive, it is so smooth. Also, is shifts very smoothly when you drive it. It almost feels like one gear.
Hey Kevin,
You are totally on it. And, as nice as the "Shadow/Wraith" body era is, which you are talking about, the earlier handbuilt "Cloud" body is that much better..... and the "Ghost" body's even better before that. I have extensive, "hands on" experience with the Rolls Royce cars all the way back to the 20/25 chassis. If you can find a car that still has the books and a traceable "custodianship" there is no better car built on this planet.
If you can spend some time with a relatively virgin car from the "Shadow/Wraith" era you will really get to appreciatte how well built these cars really are. And what's better, the current Rolls Royce custodians will truly appreciate you when their car "fails to proceed."
Best,
Greg
My dad used to own a 56 Silver Cloud Right Hand Drive model looked light it was straigt out of the grey pu pon mustard commercial. That car drove great and would turn some heads

And would you believe it has a chevy turbo 400 tranny?I almost fell out of my chair when I discovered this.
Auburn Mazda,it was university motors years ago,on opelika road.
Neat! My wife and I bought our first new car there in '93. An MX6. Sorry to burst your thread.
To the next reply, the TH400 is used in several other cars. That is a testimony to it's durability. Jeep used them in the early 70s in pickups at least, maybe CJ7 too? They are used in "P" chassis for motorhomes. Also, the Frigidaire A6 a/c compressors are used all over the place too: Mercedes, Ford/Lincoln, John Deere...
I used to work on them a few years back,a guy i did alot of work for had 3 of them and had me fix them, they were built solid, but the elctrical was real fun to fix.
