make me happy
Within a week or so I will be putting my dash back together. Currently I have the speedo and tach out, the steering wheel off (but not the column), all dash pads and the gauge bezel, and the console. Its a mess.....
What I am looking for are LOTS of pictures of dashes like this. Any step-by-step advice will also be appreciated. Anyone who has changed color in dash and column has gone this far.
By the way, I finished my seats today. They look great and only took a couple of afternoons. Anyone who wants to come put my dash together, I will put your seat covers on for you.......

Doesn't anyone have pictures of their ripped-apart dashes? And information as to how they put theirs back together? Maybe you missed something and I should know about it. C'mon.......

That's exactly the kind of pictures I'm looking for. Thanks much for taking the time to help out an old vette restorer who doesn't know what he's doing....
Pics of recent removal of 69 dash. I installed the left side first. Hardest part is connecting the speedo and tach cables. next is pluging in all of the light bulb sockets. Right side is a piece of cake. Then guage cluster and console and p brake cover. Good luck.
Do you still have the pictures that you took when you took the dash apart? (You *did* take pictures, right?) Maybe you could get some guidance that way...

I see your glasses on the dash must be bifocals, mine make me crazy trying to work under a dash. they have to come off

This kind of reference is just what I was looking for. This coming weekend (if my parts show up) my son and I will begin putting our dash back together. Your efforts are appreciated........
... just pulled my drivers dash out ... again. I just wasn't happy with
my door alignment - and needed to get at the hinge bolts easily.
Best advice I can give is to not try installing the drivers dash
and squeeze it over the steering column. The lower lip will snap.
Lowering the column (dropped to floor) also lets you connect all the
lightbulbs/harnesses/speedo cables while tipped forward and you can see.
Mine is 75 - similar to all others posted. Later years will differ (78-up ?)
I need to start putting mine back together too. I'm guessing that it would be easier to put the dash panels in and wire everything before the top dash pad goes in?

I admit I'm a little nervous about dropping the column. I've never touched anything like that. I even painted it intact in the dash. We had a devil of a time getting the lower dash out but we did it. I know that will be the toughest part to do. I don't look forward to putting the gauge area back together. We didn't take any gauges out but there sure is a lot of stuff there...........

I put the instrument cluster back in before installing the dash pad, it made it much easier to hook up the lights and everything. I've attached links to Jim Shea's steering column papers, he gives detailed written instructions for dropping the column

The article makes it clear not to let the steering column just hang by its own weight. But I don't want to take it out; I just want to lower it some to I can get the lower dash panel back and install the speedo, tach and lights correctly. Can someone tell me if it is okay to drop it a couple of inches with support?
