Cig lighter Question?????
Ok I my cig lighter is not working. Don't smoke...anymore..but I need it for the cell phone charger. The positive wire is connected to the bottom, but where does the GROUND come from???
thanks, Mark
Mark,
There should be two wires. An orange one going to the center positive connector and a black ground wire which connects to the bottom, side of the barrel.
Best,
Greg

Greg thanks, the black wire is missing!! Back to the assembly manual....though it's not real clear. I may just run a ground jumber wire from the HVAC control to the lighter or the console piece.
The Ground wire is usually attached to a copper colored ring which is attached to the lighter housing.
That's exactly how it is grounded. Just run a jumper to anything metal and right there on the tranny tunnel you won't have a problem. Also when everything is hooked up check the fuse.
Is a power point different in size than a cigarette lighter?
Kona
Mine is, at least. I would assume the cig lighter is the same on all C3s. My cig lighter is all green and doesn't work anyways. If I'm moving, I just roll up the window, light up with a lighter, then roll it down. Wish the damn thing worked, though.
I just had the console on the 72 apart last weekend, and there wasn't any ground wire on the lighter. I didn't try the lighter so mine could be broken also. There was a light bulb attached to the side of the lighter housing and I think that only had 1 wire also. I think the lighters on the C3's are smaller than the ones on other vehicles. You might be better off wiring in another socket in an inconspicuous location.
