Default Hooker sidepipe muffler inserts

I just bought Hooker sidepipes for my 68 coupe and would appreciate any information on mufflers.

Links to websites would be great and for those that have used more than one type of muffler reviews would also be appreciated.

Hooker makes 3 different mufflers, reverse flow, glass packs an maxflows.

The reverse flow are the quietest, but are the most restrictive.

The glass packs sound great (I've had them before) but are still somewhat restrictive.

The max flows are supposed to have very little, if any restriction, but are the loudest. I haven't heard them yet but just ordered new ones from Summit.

The new Hooker 2.5" glasspacks were my first choice but they were on backorder when I needed mufflers. I bought "sweet thunder" inserts instead (2 1/4" dia) and I'm happy with sound and performance, these inserts are available in 2", 2 1/4" and 2.5" and are relatively inexpensive ($170 shipped).
STS baffles are very expensive but not restrictive. There are some soundclips posted here on the forum, these baffles sound great. Use the search function and search for 'STS baffles' or 'sidepipe mufflers'

While everyones on the topic of side pipe mufflers can anyone identify these for me? I ordered a set of hooker headers and side pipes from jet hot last summer they were supposed to come with glass packs. It ended up taking 4 months to get they gave me the run around like you wouldn't believe and im not even sure I have the right mufflers I was so aggrivated I never checked.

Syco79, Those are reverse flow mufflers, and unless you are after the most quiet sidepipes you can have, I would never use them. They will choke even a bone stock smallblock
If you want glasspacks, send those back and ask for the new Max Flow Hooker inserts.....they're the best sounding I've tried so far, if you like moderatly loud...

I do not want to hijack your thread, but, I'm looking for Hooker side pipes and I'm curious where you found them at? Thanks in advance.

Yes syco,

Ordered without mufflers, should be here in a couple of days.

I would think that as long as yours haven't been used and there is no damage they would take them back.

I'm back in the states now and back on dail-up so trying to listen to these clips is hell

Thanks for all the imput guys.

I have the hooker 4" inserts in my sidepipes, the glasspacks I beleive, but not sure. I'll have to look that up. I'll be visiting the dynojet next month: I'll look up this post then and report back.

I used to pull the side tubes off when I took the car to the dragstrip. I guess because of the long primary tubes, it has a much deeper tone than under the car open headers. The sound at 7500 rpm is the sweetest thing you'll ever hear

I just want to let you all know I just got off the phone with Jet-Hot. They are sending Fedex to pick up these reverse flow mufflers tomorrow and they will be sending me out glasspacks since they didnt have new max flows. No charge to me even after waiting several months before figuring out I had the wrong mufflers! What more can you ask from a company? The sterling finish is on par with chrome by the way.
