Here in the Houston area have been buying premium gas for almost $3 a gallon. I have noticed the octane rate is now 94 for Shell V formula. Anyone else notice the octane increase in their part of the country? At $3 a gallon glad Shell made some improvement to the gas houstonvett
I'll bet it's no real improvement. I'll bet they started mixing the gas with MTBE or Ethanol, which might raise the octane, but it's actually CHEAPER gas that they are charging you the same or more for.
Bastages. Too bad the government is doing nothing about the riduculous profits the oil companies are making. Why, becasue they are all in their pocket.

Solution: Stop voting for the DNC and GOP, I'd rather have the green party, at this point. I always vote libertarian, though.
Still 91 octane here in CA, remember octane ratings change with altitude and formula based on geography. The 91 here is actually probably about 92 or 93, but according to the math it's 91.
Big oil makes about $.10 a gallon,..not out of line. Do you know what your government(s) makes per gallon?
Fine. How much does it cost produce a gallon. One number means nothing without the other. If it costs them $0.10 to produce a gallon, then a %100 profit margin is out of line. If it costs them $1.00 to produce a gallon, then a %10 margin is perfectly acceptable.
What kind of margins do most huge corporations (thinking GM/FORD here) enjoy?
As far as taxes, we all know THEY suck and gouge...and suck, then gouge some more.
We have 92 octane here in Washington. Still not enough for the 427/454 original big blocks. I have kept mine original specs from the factory in 68. Have to mix 110 octane with the pump gas to keep my 427 from pinging and lugging. Mix about 3 to four gallons of 110 octane with the premium pump gas (92) and it works OK then. 110 octane around here is about $7.00 a gallon. Luckily there is a custom shop for muscle cars and corvettes nearby where I buy mine. Gets expensive when you want to go on a cruise. Always keep two 5 gallon cans handy filled with 110 octane to mix.
we used to have 94 at our Sunoco's around here in Delaware but they all dropped to 93. Plus the station i usually go to on the way to work doesn't seem to sell 93 either. Everytime i select it it tells me invalid grade and i have to put 91 and i know everyone says it doesn't matter especially in a low compression 74 but when i put that crap in and get into her on a warm day you can heare her pinging in the upper rpm range all is ok now though as i found another Sunoco with 93 on tap

Let's punish the oil companies ...by letting the government tax the profit, because the government REALLY knows how to spend it!!!
Come on, the oil companies make $$, so what, that's what companies do, and if you don't want to add to their profits, you can ride a bike. That's my .02 (no profit included) (& I don't work for an oil company).

Phhh... it's not like our government has the responsibility to break up monopolies!
