Default question for quadrajet xperts

have been tuning qjet on a new 383, and broke the bakelite cover on the mainjet and float area....guess i can find one, but, was just wondering how important this cover is....after all,,a gasket covers everything anyway......much obliged for responses

the plastic insert that drops in over the needle valve and main metering rods holds the needle valve in place. Absolutely necessary.

on mine its black plastic of some sort.

turtlevette, i dont mean the locking collar around the needle valve,,my carb had a bakelite cover over the whole area...needle and rods and float.....
