Default Removing A/C

I am considering removing the non working A/C from my 74. I did a quick look over to see what was all involved and I noticed that there were 2 hoses running to something infront of the radiator and a few other parts.

What needs to be removed and how hard is it to do?

that Something is the condensor, it comes out. Compressor and hoses. Depending on how far you want to go, the cooling coils and box can come out too. Are you going to lose the heater core too?

Just hold on to the parts once you have them out. If and when you ever sell the car the buyer may want them.

i would be very carefull what you remove electrically from the AC system. you can create some very interesting electrical problems for yourself.

for the longest time, i had the strangest problem with the WS wipers on my 73. they would only work if the transmission was in 4th gear.

i tried and tried to figure out why this was behaving like that, but had no luck. it was not untill i started trying to get my AC system going that my wipers started working properly again. it turns out that there is a ground wire that comes off of the wires for the AC blower that connects down by the starter. my wire was not connected. once i hooked this ground up, my blower started working and my wipers magically started to behave for the first time.

it turns out that with the proper ground removed, the only other path to ground for the wipers was through the TCS switch down on the transmission 4th gear lever. very funkey.... and a beeotch to drive in the rain with.

ofcourse, if you don't care about wipers, or TCS systems, or god knows what else is on the same system as the AC in your 74, then yank away.

i would just be carefull, that's all......

I removed my complete A/C , Heater but did not remove any wiring, you never know what you may want to do later, the parts that were still there are in boxes an put away. just tape up the harness neatly. wipers? you can drive theese cars in the rain? last on my long list is wiper door and wipers. rain x if i get caught. only happened once in my other vette

yea, you can actually drive these cars in the rain. and oddly enough, mine did not have a problem with leaks that i hear so many others complaining about. wlll wait a minuit, i did have a leak in the rear deck lid but some new weather striping fixed that right up.

my 73 was a daily driver for a while. if there is one truth about Florida that can not be argued it is that at any given time it can and will rain.

sitting at a light i would have to have it in 4th just to see the light. when you take off, you had to get to 4th as quickly as possilbe to get your visability back. it made driving a little more of an adventure.

i love my 73.
