I want to repaint my engine in the process of cleaning up the engine compartment. Is there a reasonable way to do this without pulling it?
I know I can take the air cleaner and the valve covers off to paint them, but would like to do something about my exaust manifolds as well. Is pulling them a big pain in the rear? Is the manifold treatment that places like Ecklers and MAD a decent product? Would I be better off with doing a good sanding job and painting them with high temp paint?
Also, should the intake manifold be painted? It does not look like it was originally, but I am not certain.
Finally, what are the proper colors for the air cleaner and valve covers? At the moment, they are chipped/faded red.
I painted the engine in my 69 about 10 years ago. Removed the carb, shielding, dist & wires, exhaust manifolds and everything up front. "A lot of work". Re the exhaust manifolds, had them sand blasted and painted with a high heat gray paint (don't remember the name) and they are still gray today....
