Default Weird...

My issue started here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1359895

This morning,I rolled the beast out of the garage (with key on) and when I turned steering wheel to the right, the dash lights came on bright..I could hear the electric fuel pump, and I cranked it and the turkey started...
I have suspected wiring to the ignition switch as the issue..now I'm convinced...now all I have to do is fix this with out mucking up..

The strange part is when I turn the lights on,it dies immediately...scratching my head on that part...

look at the ignition switch. There was a thread back in Jan I think that described a problem with it. It can get loose and be intermitant. You will have to pull it out and work it over, didn't look too dificult

Thanks...I also suspect the PO installed the Sony CD and wired it thru the ignition...it has acted up..like intermittant playing..so I think that is the root cause...the lights have me wondering...when the beast is running, and I pull the light switch on,it kills everything...but when I move the vette with key on,and turn steering wheel,I get power back...

Later...Got to go..

You're vette is haunted by dead electrons I think.

I'm stumped, too.

Don't think we'll need to use your dosimeter on my vette, by the way. With the sidepipes hooked up it's quieter than stock.

Everything checked out...alternator readings, grounds all good,battery,etc...it would not duplicate the symtoms but noticed ignition switch would not go into ACC...felt like it was jammed or something..so installed a new switch and it works in ACC,steering un-lock and start...radio wiring also checked out and hooked up properly...
Noticed a spring inside old switch...hope that "jamming" was the issue..
Thanks for the tips/suggestions..no problem on test drive..
Rich

BTW:Noise level readings are taken at our SCCA autocross events..don't know about the NCCC event this Saturday..

Glad you got it sorted, so the '69 is going to be there this saturday then? I didn't get my front end finished so I'm not going to do too great but I'll at least get some experience this weekend. Mind giving me a hand adjusting the steering box before it goes out? Ya the new exhaust is so quiet now that I can have a conversation with my gf with it at WOT haha.

I think they check noise level at every autocross event at the Murph...City ordinances try to keep the noise down. Those people that live in Serra Mesa have complained to the city for YEARS about noise limitations from the auto racing...Never mind the fact that the 8 and Friars probably create more noise than those guys racing around the course...

Glad to hear that it worked out for you on your ignition switch, though. I'm going to be running the gamut on all electrical in my car soon, since half of the gauges don't work.

Old switch
Ok...took the switch apart and right away the problem was obvious...As I would operate the ignition switch, sometimes an arc (short) would occur and knock all power off...if you look close in pic,you can see where arc occurred..(black spot on terminal)...since replacing Ignition switch.all has been well...keep in mind my switch was not adjusted properly, causing an intermittent disruption of power to starter..

It turned out to be the ignition switch..what I failed to recognize was not being able to get the switch into ACC...it did not occur to me that the switch was not adjusted properly...that in turn resulted in an intermittent arc shorting out the system..thanks for giving me an idea to check out...
