Default ProTeam Experiences, Anyone?

Just wondering, as I see one or two C3's in which I could be really interested. I know they've been around a long time, and seem to sell only the good stuff, but if any of you have had direct dealings with 'em I'd like to hear how well/not-so-well those dealings may have been for you. Thanks!

I have no personal experience but based on what I have read about them I would never want to have any personal experience with them. Just my opinion. It has been said that they sold more big block Corvettes than General Motors ever built. I have also read many example son this and other forums where they have "doctored" up a car to make it something better than what it originally was. Be careful.
Also, I'm not exactly 18 so I remember that ProTeam was formerly called TMichaellis Corvettes until Terry Michaellis filed bankruptcy and came back as ProTeam. I have spent the bulk of my working years in the credit management profession, and bankruptcy says negative things to me.
I don't want to do business with someone like that, but that's just me.

I bought my 71 there but I think my case is different. Most of their cars are restored and they do seem to have a lot of the low production cars such as the ls6 or lt1. My car is not restored and it's definitely not a show car. I couldn't afford a show car. My car is just a nice driver quality. It has the original paint and the seats show wear. They bought my car from an old man that lived locally. It is a bloomington gold survivor and matching numbers car and they didn't touch it. When this car came along I was out of a job. I know, good time to buy a Vette. I had a newer truck at the time and was trying to sell it to buy this car. I went to the bank and they oked my loan. Great, I was ready to buy my car. Then they tell me they need $2000 to close the deal. Having lost my job, I didn't have that kind of cash. I got them down to $1000 and luckily dad had some extra cash to lend me. Get me right, my salesman was very friendly as he was a c3 owner himself, but the whole deal seemed like it was rushed, like they wanted to get my money as fast as they could. I went to them as a last resort. I had been looking for a 68-72 for some time. They were the only place that had exactly what I wanted at a price I could afford. I live in southern Indiana and these cars seem to be non existent around here. I really didn't have any problems with pro team. Like the other guys said, if you're going to buy from them, make sure you know what you're buying. They like to make rare, highly optioned cars from ordinary models. Hope this helps.

Do you have documentation of this? Perhaps they were rushing you before the ink on the "Bloomington Gold" award smeared...

I went there 4 years ago looking for a '68-'72 roadster. The ads on the cars I wanted to look at were misleading as far as overall condition and therefore I felt they were overpriced. The salesman told me that their prime business is C1 and C2's, and they really weren't into C3's or newer yet. Great thing to tell a potential customer. The cars they have are a "collection," and they happen to be for sale, but they aren't very motivated to sell. Once you get on the mailing list, you'll notice the same cars stay on the floor for months. It's a great place to go and look though, indoors in several buildings (salesman assisted by appointment to look), lots of Vette's. Just like a museum. I won't go back and I'll recommend them with caution.

One car I was interested in was a '69 roadster, red/red, hartop, soft top delete, 350/350, 4 speed, Texas car, around 80k miles, completely original including dry rot tires and hoses, so it needed to be restored to enjoy a dependable and safe car. Paint and interior cracked, chrome rusty. $21,000 in 2002. Pro Team bought this car out of storage somewhere and cleaned it up, looked good from 20 feet though and it had documentation. They also had a '70 454 coupe, 4 speed, a/c, no brakes, velour interior, some body damage, very tired car, $13,000. And a '68 project roadster, gutted interior, a big block, top missing, door skins loose, a basket case, $9,000.

An appraiser mentioned to me about the ads placed by these folks looking to buy rare corvette parts like tri-power intakes and the like. He said they were building rare cars.

Went there and looked at a couple of cars I was interested in. The condition of the cars was "over stated" in their ad. I made an offer, which they didn't accept. They do have a large selection of cars (including a large number of C3s).

Yes, I have the survivor award. I have the receipt and the cancelled check that the previous owner got when he paid the fee to have the car judged. I have pictures of the judges looking over my car. I think I even have the survivor area parking pass too. This took place in 1991 so the condition of the lacquer paint has gone downhill since then. If I didn't have this proof, I probably wouldn't have believed it either. My car is the real deal. It just isn't a super rare low production model.

It was great place to visit when I started my Vette search. It gave me a good idea of the condition to expect from cars this age. I didn't buy from them because the ones I liked were over my budget. But the visit helped me get familiar with C3's so when the right one came along, I knew it.

I thought they were over priced but that's what you'd expect from a dealer.
