1974 Big Block ?
Thinking of buying another C3. I can't afford a double chrome bumper Big Block. So, I have been looking for a 74 Big Block-Ragtop. Being the last year for the 454, it may gain some $ value over the next few years and be fun at the same time.

How SLUGGISH is a 74 Big Block - automatic ?
Any thoughts ? ?
Lower compression motor, but it wouldn't take much to "wake it up" IMO.
Sorry, no more so than a 4 speed. You can light up the rears even with an automatic. The lowered compression ratio is what makes them feel underpowered, but it's no big deal to change components and take care of that. If you're plans entail driving around town a lot, a properly set up automatic is a lot nicer than rowing a stick with a heavy duty, muscle trembling clutch. Just my opinion, and you know that everyone has one.
With some head work or new heads (GM Performance O-Ports?) plus some compression (10:1? vs. the 8.25 it has now), a little more cam (Comp's 270H?) and some headers we'll be able run with most anything.
I'm still trying to find out if a Edelbr. Performer will fit under a 73-74 hood,..I wish to keep the cowl induction set-up.
Between 71-74 the power is pretty close between the LS-5 and LS-4 cars. 285 (71), 270 (72), 275 (73), 270 (74). Any of these cars can run a 14 second quarter mile in stock form, and some when properly optioned are capable of getting into the 13's stock. An automatic 74 LS-4 auto with 3.08's is going to be one of the slower of the bunch, but is still going to have enough torque to be fun. All of these engines are real easy to wake up, to the point where traction starts to become the biggest issue on street tires.
Sorry again, but that means that it wasn't properly tuned. They have tons of torque, done proper. Even without bumping the compression or better cams. Obviously, those items make a world of difference, but so can proper carburetion, timing, and exhaust. Really.

I will take ANY opinions on what this car should bring.....The more I can educate myself, the less dumb stuff I do ! I sorta like the No AC...sorta weird for a 74. I may bid on it unless you folks think it is overpriced.
I think the seller will be looking for 18k - 25k....it's a pretty rare Vette in nice original condition.....but I wouldn't bid on it without looking at it first.....
