Default Fuel pump leaking?

I noticed a liquid (gas) on the top of my fuel pump on my L-48 and could smell gas. I noticed it right after I shut the engine down. I does not happen every time, just caught it once. No indication on where it is coming from, but I really don't like the idea of having a fuel leak.

Anyone ever come across this before? How was it cured? I have checked the hoses and all look good.

Thank you.

My pump was leaking at the fitting, thought it was the fuel pump. Took the hose and fitting off, cleaned them up and re installed and works fine w/o leaks. Worth checking for........................LT

Last month I had gas dripping from the fuel line hose that goes from the stainless steel line to the fuel pump. Not the same position as yours, but it turned out that the fuel line itself was old and brittle, and fule was leaking at the connection point between the fuel pump nipple, and the hose clamp.

Thats not an area that I wanted to take a chance on so I ended up replacing the fuel line.

You wrote that you have fule on top of your fuel pump, so it cant be the fuel lines below it. Is the fuel line that goes from the pump to your carb the original stainless steel line, or a rubber hose? You could also check out the condition of this line to see if there is any sign of leaks.

It could be leaking from the vent hole. This is a sign of an internal leak. Play it safe and replace it with a new one.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will pick up a new fuel pump and replace it.
