Getting ready to purchase a set of Flowmaster Super 40 series mufflers for my 71 coupe. Anyone given these a try - curious as to what kind of sound they give. I'm looking for something that is aggressive and throaty.
I have them on my 72, and they sound awesome. So much better than the Dynomax Super Turbo's I had on before. Deep, aggressive sound, with no intereior resonance.
I have them at the end of a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system and I love them. I must admit that I do have some resonance at around 1000 rpm, but it's not that bad.
I have a set of Flowmaster Delta Flow Stainless Steel 40 series brand new in the boxes that came with my car when I purchased them. I want something like the 50 series for a quieter, more mellow sound. I don’t know if there is a price difference between the two but I will trade you the 40 series I have for the 50 series if you buy a set of those. If its not cheaper I am willing to throw in some money for the difference. I can ship these to you and you can order and ship the 50 series to me.
Now that I think of it I will sweeten the deal to make it worth your while. I will pay shipping of these two to you and will pay shipping costs of shipping the new ones to me.
i've got them on the end of my 21/2" exhaust on my 383. i like them, very little resonance, but i have no balance tube either. still a little loud, but much much quieter than the chamber exh. i was running. But i am running 4:10 rear gear so the motor is spinning at hiway speeds.
I have the Super 40s, plus an H-pipe just after the tranny crossbeam. Absolutely Great Sounding! no reasonance. If you want that great muscle car V8 sound , these are for you! But if listening to your radio on low volume is a top priority, get the the Delta 50s.
The super 40's sound like the way to go for me. Right now all I have is straight pipes right from the exhaust manifolds and let me tell you "wow is it loud" ! Especially when you let off the throttle after getting into it. I talked with a guy from Performance Peddler in Michigan yesterday and he said he could sell them to me for $72.00/ea. - seems reasonable. He will pickup the freight cost and not charge me sales tax being it is out of state.
Any of you guys that have the Super 40's have any sound clips ?

Thanks anyways - I think I want to go with the Super 40's instead of the standard 40 series. Unless, those are the Super 40's you have. But the number on the box you are showing doesn't match up with the ones I am ordering. If you want to sell them outright - what would you be asking ? Are they O/C or C/C ?
I have 2 1/2" w/H pipe 40s on a big block nova, love them but would recommend the H pipe if possible, buddy has a 350 truck 40s no H pipe and it will drive you nuts at about 50
