Default 81 nose emblem question...

Are the front and rear emblems on an 81 about the same size? I was thinking of "restoring" my front emblem by removing the flags from a rear emblem and putting them on my front emblem. I can repaint my nose emblem black and I am missing my rear gas tank emblem to compare sizes. Thanks. By the way, there is one on ebay right now that i was just outbid on. Its up to 138.50 with 4 days left.

If you're asking about the front flag emblem and the one on the gas cap cover, yes, they are very close to the same size (one hand span each ).

The one on the front has a little bend to it and the gas cap one is flat. I have no idea if they are the same or if there is enough flex to bend it.

I have the metal part of the front emblem, which I can repaint, the plastic flags are just missing. I'll just order two gas cap emblems and destroy one of those to remove the flags without breaking them. I'll let you know how it works.

Never mind, it looks like, in pictures, that the flags are shaped differently...the front ones slant upward more.

The front emblem has an upswept style to the flags on top of being bent back to fit around the nose. The gas cap emblem is more straight across and is also flat.

Gas cap

Nose (it's an 80, but it's shaped the same)

You might be better off buying a '80 nose emblem and painting the metal black. I believe that's the only difference between the '80 and '81

Look around on ebay. I picked one up for about $15 because the guy had listed it as a gas door and not a front emblem. They're still out there.
