DETROIT — Tom Wallace, head of performance cars at General Motors, says the Chevrolet Corvette Blue Devil and its 600 horsepower are set to become a reality, according to an online report by Auto Week. His main worry: how to make sure the Blue Devil is driven by people who can handle the power.
Perhaps GM will start a Blue Devil driving school, he mused, adding that it would be a good idea for buyers of the Corvette Z06 as well.
The Blue Devil is reportedly a Corvette Z06 with 100 more horsepower from a supercharged engine, an approximate 2,900-pound curb weight, and a price expected to hit $100,000 or more. There was no word on exactly when this Blue Devil will be available for sale, to qualified drivers or otherwise.
From: GA "When I grow up, I'm gonna get a Trans Am and run from the cops". Direct quote from my 4yo son.
It think Ferrari does or did have a driving school for purchasers of their top end cars to get people used to them before turning them loose on the street. Chevrolet should probably consider that. Just because you might be able to afford one doesn't mean you can handle it.
Driving school? Sounds like a marketing gimmick...
Two other interesting points about the article:
- Man, it's small compared to all the other crap on that web page. The article was 3 sentences...the rest of the page is advertisements...
- It states that Tom Wallace is chief of performance cars. Other than the Vette, what other car at GM is considered "performance"???

The GTO (current one and the new GTO coming in a couple years), new Camaro, CTS-V, STS-V, XLR-V, Sky GXP...I'd say putting a 300-horse V8 in some of their regular sedans is pretty performance-oriented to...
Anyway, what I've been hearing all along is that the Blue Devil will well exceed 600hp...current reports at 650-680hp and 2900lbs *faint* It's gonna be an absolutely AMAZING car

I would almost put money on it not lasting for too awfully long. I am glad they are doing it though. What a neat ride thats going to be!!! If I start saving my pennies now, maybe in 2025 I can put a down payment on one.

the quote should actually read "make sure the Blue Devil is driven by people who can afford it." And maybe GM will start a driving course to make a few more bucks off the lucky smoe.
read about this today in the local paper. im sure gm will screw it up like everything else they do. but who cares, no one i know could afford one, and it will be such a collector item, who would drive it? the only gm performance car, " the vette" is already out of most peoples price range, the old 97 and up camaros/firebirds demand as much respect as an edsel ( possibly worst car ever ) and the gto's are tempting, but look like crap. ford and now daimler chrysler is slaying gm in this part of the market. i dont wanna buy a mustang. come on gm.... throw us regular folks a bone already! sheeesh!
You have to remember that this will have a factory warranty as well, it has to last, or the screaming hordes will clamor for blood.
Why does it have to have a warranty, back in the 70's some of the Muscle cars comming out of Detroit, didn't. I bought a brand new 70 440 4 BBl Cuda because it came with a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty, but the 440 six pack (3 duces) or the 426 Hemi came with no drivetrane warranty, once you drove it off the lot it was your responceability.

Are you sure that your memory is serving you correctly? I believe that 12 months, 12,000 miles was the standard for the time...

The 67 Vette I bought in 68 had a 5 year/50,000 mile factory warranty, which was standard, not an option. I remember, because I used the warranty to get a new 4-speed in about 71.
