I'm trying to determine what motor came in this 1971. The suspension is big block but there is presently a small block in the car. The vin is 1943715104388. The block stamp is K0120CKB. Any help is appreciated.
The VIN on your year of car does not contain engine info. That started in 1972.
You engine was mde by McKinnon Industries in St. Catherines, Ontario and assembled on January 20th. You would have to check the casting date on the block to see which year. It was originally from an X, A or F body car in the 1972-74 time period. Again you'd need the casting year to narrow it down the HP rating.
Looks like it's time to start looking for a build sheet. Usually they are on top of the fuel tank...but I found one under the carpet behind the drivers seat on my 72. Good luck.
194371S
1 = Chevy Division
94 = Corvette, V8 Engine (4 is even, 6 cyl would be odd, but they never made em)
37 = Sport Coupe
1 = 1971 S as in Sam = Assembled in St. Luis Missouri
104388 = Sequence Numer of your Corvette
As stated before, your engine is not original, came from another car.
K = St Catherines, Ontario Canada
0120 = "01/20" if that helps you, January 20th.
CKB = 1972 350cid 2barrell w/TH350 in it's original application. Alot of Nova's used this engine. 2 bolt main, as this was one of the "base" 350 engines for 1972.

CKB was used in other years and other applications than Nova.
The VIN derivative on the stamp pad and the casting date would help narrow it down.
Mike - totally correct. I said alot of Nova's used this engine, but so did base Chevelles, Biscaynes, Impalas, - even station wagons. It was a pretty common 350 engine, altho not used in high performance applications.
My Chevy Numbers book did say that engine block was a 72 tho. I dont see that engine block code for other years, but I definately could be wrong. I wasn't there...
Didn't somebody write a book about this recently? It's on the bestseller lists, I think they're making a movie, too.... Called "Da Vin Code" or something like that....
You said your car has big block suspension. So I am assuming you mean it has a factory rear sway bar. If this is so, your car was an LS-5. Your vin is way to early for it to have been an LS-6, therefore your only option would be the 454/365hp engine.
Can anyone help identify these "engine numbers" for a '71 4SPD coupe as provide to me by a third party? I am a former C5 guy who has no clue about matching #s...

I looked those two # series up on another resource and they appear to be the engine block VIN and engine application numbers? However, the "C" in C11S101760 is what is throwing me for a loop. 101760 appears in the vehicle VIN as well. Trying to determine if that is the right motor for that car...
