Default Custom Interiors?

Anyone know of a good shop for custom interiors?

I have a '68 convertible that I want to make some minor console modifications to and am having a hard time finding a place that does this type of work.

Thanks for the help.

A stereo shop that makes custom fiberglass speaker enclosures could probably do it.

Nothing radical, I'm not putting the heater controls back in (heater core is not plumbed and isn't going to be) and want to blank those out. Also trying to decide what, if any, additional stereo equipment I might want to put in which may drive additional mods.

I need to get my lazy butt going, but I plan to do something similar, although I'm going to attempt to do it myself. For the center console where the shifter is I'm going to cut out a piece of 1/8" board (like thin pegboard but without the holes), cut out where I want to place things including possibly an oval hole for the shifter and matching aftermarket boot, all the normal controls (still trying to find compatible "modern" black plastic power window and mirror controls), an aftermarket ash tray, and possibly integrated cup holders, and cover it all in black vinyl. For the instrument cluster area I'm looking to either do the same thing or get a thin stiff sheet of vinyl or plastic and paint it with the vinyl texture paint similar to the custom dash covers. Not sure how it will look but for the small cost and amount of work I'll give it a try.

Basically, the '70's styling just isn't doing it for me and I really think some very minor updates can make all the difference.

i was going to do black vynle for my stuff but the vynle is a pita to work with on curves/etc.... the tweed is alot easier to mold/wrap also..... unless you have a steamer, the vynle might be hard..... i tried a heat gun and hair dryer and i couldn't get it right so i scrapped the idea and went with tweed.... my brother in-law wrapped my entire interior in 2.5 hours........just need yellow glue and a spray gun and a spoon with a round edge........ use the spoon to push the material intot he corners/valleys....etc.......if i come across any cash, i'm gonna strip it all down and just go all black......more of a steath look...

If the vinyl texture paint works out, the instrument cluster won't be an issue. If curves are a problem then no big deal on the shifter console area, I'll just go back to straight edges for the shifter boot as everything else will most likely be squares/rectangle holes anyway. I'm not doing the dash itself or any of areas with curved faces, all flat things with holes. As cheap and easy as it should be I might just start by making the center shift area console leaving pretty much everything as is to work out the construction details before trying to make any changes.

My plans are considerably more simple than what you did. If the vinyl doesn't work out or I don't like the look I might try pleather next. If that also fails my next stop will be a custom interior shop. I'm going for a more modern, close to a "what you might find in a new car" look not an obviously custom job. Ok, anyone that knows anything about C3s will know it's custom, but for a typical person I just want it to look more nice and comfortable than the cold plastic and chrome 70's style. I'm happy with the layout, I think Chevrolet did a good job designing it, just need to change the look of the materials used.
