Default Is this good? Please read...

I just found out tonight that out of a total of 536,358 C3 corvettes ever produced between 68 and 82, my '68 was the 269th one ever made! It was built in early September of 1967. Does this early production number bring any extra value to the car?
Thanks...

Per the VIN#, it is the 269th 1968 corvette built for the year. (And no, there is no "269" in the VIN). It is #269 per the production number sequence of 401174 (400905 was the first production number to be used on the C3 in 1968). As in the first one built would be numer one, second one built is number two etc..

No. It doesn't add any value to the car. Maybe if it was the very first one or the very last. But if number 269 was worth a little extra would that mean car number 268 is worth slightly more than that?
It's just a nice Corvette that's worth whatever the condition reflects.

Number 269 is not good. It's not bad either. It just "is".

I asgree it just IS.

It all depends on the condition of the Vette. You could use the 269 for marketing, but I dont think it's got real dollar value.

Uh,
Where do you get the info that 400905 was the first '68 vin used? The first # was 400001. I have #400164. If your VIN is 401174, then you have the 1,174th '68 which would have come off the line in early Oct.
I just figured out why you think 905 is the first '68; The Black book lists "Ending Vehicle" numbers for each month of production. # 905 was the last Vette produced in September of '67. You must have read that to mean the 1st one built.

now if you could access every motor vehicle in the usa and find out how many of the 1 - 268 have been destroyed, you might have a point there

From your picture it looks like you've made some changes to your 68 (rocker panel mouldings, louvers, center caps on wheels) and depending on the buyer that could add or detract from value.

Also, I believe the first VIN for 68 was 400,001 not 400,905

Actually, the book I have must be printed wrong. It says that the numbers for Sept '67 start at 400905 and end at 403410. Oh well. Guess that goes to prove you can't always believe what you read.

If your reading the "Black Book", you see that it says "ending vehicle" 400905 is the last vehicle built, not the first. If your concern is how valuable your Vette is, the wrong doors, hood, surround, lack of wiper doors, rocker moldings, added gill inserts, wrong center caps would be of greater concern to a collector.

to chime in a little late - my black book states the following:
top of the page - under 1968 Numbers
Vehicle: 194378s400001 through 194378s428566

meaning that there were 28566 produced.

The last line (grouping) under the 1968 Numbers section is a sub section titled:
Ending Vehicle:
XXXXXXX

it states the following:
Sept 67: 400905 meaning 905 produced in Sept & total produced = 905
Oct 67: 403410 meaning 2505 produced in Oct & total produced = 3410

Hope this helps

100% with big_G

you aren't the first person that has misread the black book numbers, but I don't understand what's so confusing about, "Ending Vehicle followed by the month and the serial number of the last vehicle made during the month listed.

I didn't misread anything. It was printed wrong in the book I have (not the black book).

Nice looking 68 ... despite the incorrect changes.
I like the early center caps .. and more so the gill inserts.
It's worth a lot - but not for the numbers - for the looks.
