i',m looking for a 6/32 socket cap 1/4" self tapper...... it's a small screw but i really dont what to tap 800 holes that i need to do for my "product"....... i can setup my drill press to do the drilling in quantity but the tapping is going to get to me
Is the hole blind? if not, is the material very thick? probably not (I assukme it's for your car's interior stuff?) if so, get one of those "speed" taps. Don't really know what they are called in the US but you can use them w a cordless drill and just tap w/ the drill, very quick saves a lot of time. I have tapped through over 3/8th thick steel w/ a heavy duty drill, works like a champ. Probably would work on even thicker steel also.
i was thinking about an insert with a flange since i only have about 1/8" of materail to work with..... i can get 1000 bolts for 80 bucks through mcmasters....going to the hardware store, they would charge me like 200..... it's for a smaller project that i'm working with....details and precising...not much room for error........
the metal is a casted metal.... seems to be a brass maybe... i might be able to just tighten the bolt without tapping it..... prolly won't work but i'll try it out..... the bolts im working with are 18-8 s.s. 6/32...... is there a big difference between the 18-8 and the 316 (i think) s.s..... the bolts aren't for structural purpose...just for appearance..... what ranked s.s. do they sell at depot?.... i got my prototype s.s. bolts there and like the finish.......
